Halo all,

shot3

While there has not been a write up for two weeks, the weekly Sekar Gedhogan Community Orchestra Sunday night sessions have continued--and grown! The traditional gamelan instruments have found a new bedfellows, including brief appearances by Rangda dancers and (as yet unlit) fire dancer, and a good helping of dance and martial arts. Instrumental accompaniments have ranged from electric guitar to dueling harmonicas, from amazing scat singing to karaoke. The age range has also expanded, encompassing baby boomers and children of the 90's.

We hope that Alice had a memorable ninth birthday, as she made the full tour of the instruments, from saron to gongs to drums to the big-wood-xylophone (sorry, I can never remember the Indonesian name of it). Big thanks to Jules, Debbie, and their families, who have been avid supporters this summer, providing music and silat! Hope you have wonderful holidays, and we await your returns next month.

As always, our gatherings are open to all. All are invited to bring any food and/or drink to share, and monies continue to be collected for those affected by the 27 May earthquake near Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. Our first event three weeks ago raised £120, which has already been delivered, and in the last two weeks we have raised more than £150. Our next event is planned for the 6 August, and will include demonstations Silat accompanied by SGGO's unique gamelan-inspired sound. Please do join us each and every Sunday, starting round 7pm, and mark your calendars for the 6th August: it will be a show not to be missed.
