Lamps and Lighting |
|
In the early 1990s Thierry Durieux began to work with SKK Lighting UK, supplying the London based lighting company with statues to assemble into lights. The statues were made by wood carvers in Bali using a New York MOMA catalogue titled Primitivism in the 20th Century. These reproductions of primitive art masterpieces made excellent lamps.
Following the success of the MOMA catalogue statue lamps, Thierry began to reproduce Indonesian primitive statues and transform them into lighting, both lamps and candlesticks. He was not confined to statues for long--perhaps he even let himself get carried away a bit--creating lamps out of copper batik textile stamps, wood slit gongs, rice spoons, bull racing ornaments, didgeridoos, fish traps and many other baskets. Reproductions of Polynesian Tiki god statues produced a successful line of lamps.
He has designed a line of basket inspired wall and floor lamps that double as lamp shades, though Thierry will often create lamp shades using authentic baskets with hand made paper.
Note that all lamp fittings are in accordance to UK standards.
