Rocking Carousel Animals

Thierry’s rocking animals are amongst the most beautiful of his designs. All animals are inspired by American fairground carousel animals made and used between 1890 and 1920 by designers like Detzel and Loof. Thierry brings photographs from carousel magazines to carvers in Bali to reproduce in the fine grained suar wood. Each animal is finished individually and takes up to five weeks to carve.

Thierry Durieux’ rocking animals are what every grown up child has always dreamed of having. The mechanisms have been specially designed by Thierry Durieux and each rocker uses 8 sealed roller bearings. The bases of the rockers are made using heavy merbau wood, making these rocking animals suitable for adults to play on.

Since they were first brought to London, Thierry Durieux’ rocking animals have been a trademark of his shop Kalimantan Creations in the Stables Market, Camden. He has shipped his rockers to collectors in Japan, USA, Spain, Mustique and France, and over the years he has developed them to perfection.
